In-person & Virtual Therapy in Westchester and New York City

Frequently Asked Questions

How does psychotherapy work?
You’ll have a non-judgmental companion on your journey to uncover new perspectives, explore emotions, reconcile internal or external conflicts, make informed decisions, and cultivate compassion for yourself and others. You’ll build meaningful connections and live more authentically. You are the expert on your life, and we brings the knowledge, tools and support to help you live the life you want.

We start with a 15-minute video call to see if your therapy goals match what we can help with. You can schedule the call through my Google Calendar. After the call, if we both agree it’s a good fit, we will set up our first session and send intake paperwork to everyone attending therapy. The paperwork must be completed before our first session. If you choose online therapy, you will be sent an email about how to access the telehealth platform for our scheduled time.

We offer in-person therapy at our Scarsdale office, 2 minutes walking from the Scarsdale train station. We also provide online sessions which have been shown by research to be equally effective for most clients. You can access therapy through a HIPAA-compliant Zoom link. You will enjoy the convenience of receiving therapy from your home or office without worrying about travelling. We do require that you can stay in a private room while having online therapy to protect your confidentiality. You can discuss with your therapist whether virtual therapy is the right fit for you. And you’re welcome to explore a combination of in-person and virtual sessions based on your needs.

Currently we are only serving clients throughout New York State both in-person in our Scarsdale office or online through a HIPPA-compliant telehealth platform. That means, clients need to be physically located in New York State while they are having in-person or virtual therapy sessions.

We are open on Monday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Eastern Time (EST). We are closed on Tuesday and weekends. Please feel free to contact us to inquire about available times that best fit your schedule.

We offer 45-minute to 90-minute therapy sessions weekly. Couples and family therapy sessions takes longer session time (e.g., 60-minute or 90-minute) than individual therapy sessions. Additional options include multiple weekly sessions and intensive couple therapy, up to 4 hours per day. The length of therapy varies based on your specific goals and can range from a few sessions to long-term therapy lasting over a year. We recognize that therapy requires both time and financial resources. We’re here to work with you to make your sessions worthwhile and cost-effective. Please discuss your specific needs with your therapist.

We aim to balance accessibility with quality care, prioritizing customized services that focus on your specific needs. To achieve this, we remain an out-of-network provider, allowing us to dedicate more time to personalized care. Many clients are pleasantly surprised to find their insurance includes out-of-network coverage for mental health services, enabling them to receive partial or full reimbursement for our fees. We encourage you to explore your benefits with your insurance.
Yes, we provide therapy in both English and Mandarin, with sensitivity to the values and norms of different cultures.

Human and human relationships are incredibly complex and dynamic. Marriage and family therapists go through rigorous trainings on how individuals are connected within families and relationships within a sociocultural context, making them particularly equipped to handle individual and relational issues simultaneously. They help with personal stress or mental health challenges while also looking at family, parent-child, and couple dynamics to support long-lasting healing for everyone in the family. They work with individuals, couples, and families to identify strengths and resources and seek outside support when necessary.

No. Marriage and family therapists (MFTs) do not have an agenda to keep couples together. Instead, they focus on helping clients achieve their goals. If clients want to strengthen their relationship, MFTs work with them to build a stronger connection. If clients are considering separation, MFTs guide them through the process and discuss co-parenting strategies if children are involved. If one partner is more committed than the other, MFTs use a combination of individual and joint sessions with the Discernment Counseling model to help partners make informed decisions about their relationship.
No. The title ‘Marriage and Family Therapist’ (MFT) can be misleading, but MFTs work with a wide variety of individuals, couples and families, regardless of marital status. This includes dating, engaged, non-married couples, LGBTQ couples, polyamorous relationships, separated or divorced individuals, and diverse family structures such as blended families, single-parent families, childless families, multigenerational families, and families with children at different developmental stages.
No, the title “Marriage and Family Therapist” (MFT) can be misleading. MFTs work with individuals facing a wide range of issues, such as depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, substance abuse, and relationship challenges, just like psychologists or counselors. The key difference is that MFTs are specifically trained to treat individuals within the context of their relationships and cultural backgrounds. People are always interacting with others and their environments. Thus, we believe that individual struggles are often connected to their relationships and the broader socioeconomic context in which they live. For instance, an individual client may experience depression due to challenges in family relationships, romantic partnerships, parent-child dynamics, or work and social connections. MFTs focus on the interconnectedness of an individual’s personal struggles and their relational context to create lasting and meaningful change.
When you start therapy with us, we ask for a credit card on file to keep things simple and smooth. After each session, the full fee will be charged to that card. If you have any billing questions, feel free to reach out to us for help.
Our first session has two main goals: to build trust and understand the issues you’re facing. During this session, you’ll be asked questions about things like your therapy goals, your background, your relationships, and how you’ve handled challenges in the past. Your therapist will explain how therapy will work, go over important details like billing, and talk about the next steps. We’ll also answer any questions you have to make sure you feel comfortable and that we’re all on the same page.

We understand that life can be unpredictable, and things may come up unexpectedly. To ensure we can provide the best service to all of our clients and keep scheduling smooth, we ask that you cancel your appointment at least 48 hours in advance. If you need to cancel within 48 hours, the full session fee will be charged after an one-time free pass. If a last-minute cancellation happens, we will do our best to reschedule the session within the same week. However, if rescheduling isn’t possible due to availability, the session fee will not be refunded.
